Decorative Box with Elephant

A decorative wood box with the image on the lid of a caparisoned elephant carrying a canopied howdah, with a turbaned rider beneath a blue parasol, a mahout at the elephant's neck, and an attendant walking alongside. Rendered in crushed mineral pigment for a soft, grained texture in gold, rust, and jade tones. Framed and banded with pierced brass fretwork.  Inside, a velvet-lined interior gives it a proper jewelry-box feel. A brass pin hinge lets the lid swing back flat. Bottom is felted. Made in India.
