Victorian Silver-Plate Sugar Scuttle

The sugar scuttle was designed to pour, and that same tilted generosity makes it one of the better vessels for a loose handful of garden stems. The round body is fully engraved in the Victorian rococo revival manner, with dense acanthus scrolls covering nearly every surface, deepening pleasantly in the recesses, and the rim is beaded, the handle high-arching with a ball finial, the whole thing balanced on a polished pedestal foot. The angled opening is its best feature: flowers arranged here don't stand at attention, they lean, which is exactly right.
